I love taking surveys. I hate evaluating brands in most of them.
In both my career in research and my experience as a survey participant, I keep seeing the same mistake when it comes to competitive set evaluation: too many brands across too many metrics.
When a survey becomes lengthy, respondents don't just become fatigued. Some learn how the survey works and begin altering their responses (either consciously or unconsciously).
The result? Less accurate awareness data and fewer meaningful brand evaluations.
Below I've shared some strategies for tightening competitive set evaluations and improving data quality.
Have you encountered this issue in your own research or as a participant? How do you manage it?
